Inflation And Space Shooters

You would never think you would hear the words "Inflation" and "Video Game" in the same context. Well in fact thanks to CCP you can now. In an update that brings a similar system to Valve's TF2 Hats, players can now buy clothing items for your EVE Avatar which serve no purpose except cosmetic. The currency used is not the common in-game currency ISK but rather Aurum which you get by "breaking down" PLEX.

Now for those that don't know, PLEX is an in-game item that is bought with your well earned in-game money, and it adds 30 days game time to your account. The result is pretty much a good player can self sustain their game. There is a problem though. PLEX like every item in EVE isn't a fixed price. Its driven by the players. In the past month PLEX prices have gone up, but with the new Incarna patch and the introduction of Aurum I fear its just going to drive the prices of PLEX up quicker, which is a shame because for a player like me, it just makes it even more difficult to have a self sustaining game.
